Kiesha’ra Series Reference

The Kiesha’ra Series, young-adult fantasy books by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, was something I read in middle school. Everyone’s a shapeshifter, and the shapeshifters are divided into familial clans. The snakes are at war with some of the birds, but then there’s an arranged marriage made to make peace. That’s the setup of the first book, and each book thereafter sort of deals with the relationships and political problems in their combined society.

The books were short (or at least, I read them very quickly back then) and had interesting worldbuilding. It had some het romance but it didn’t feel overstated. Or maybe I just had a bigger tolerance for it back then, I dunno. I’ve reread some of it now, and it definitely has it’s pros and cons. And it’s something I wanted to see more enriched worldbuilding with.

Since deciding to create an AU of the series for the Yogs/Hats fandom for my own personal enjoyment/interest, I’ve done some research- which has proved pretty much futile on the internet. Atwater-Rhodes and her community used to have a forum and wiki set up that included troves of information from the books and the author herself. These websites have been defunct since 2015 (and inaccessible on the Wayback Machine), and have never been restored. The only sources I’ve been able to find are a couple of wiki pages and the books themselves.

So, to fill in the gaps for my own understanding/worldbuilding/fandom-use, I’ve compiled an informal, unofficial Google docs reference. This includes the shapeshifter types, their fashion and personalities, their societies and other cultural information created by/written into the world by Atwater-Rhodes. It is intended only as an informal reference for fandom-aligned use.

It is possible that Atwater-Rhodes has detailed more into the world in the books she’s published since Wyvernhail in 2007, and there could be gaps in understanding between my archiving and what was originally on her wiki.
Keeping that in mind, my reference extends majoritively to part of the Kiesha’ra series- Hawksong, Snakecharm, and Falcondance- but loosely takes the events of the entire series (including Wolfcry and Wyvernhail) into account. So. Spoilers, you know?
