Fic Rec (C Team- Walnut x Brahma)

Her Dreams are Haunted by Those Folks

(Teen, Gen and F/F, Walnut/Brahma, mild gore, death, blood, animal death, the worst creepy crawly things, also spoilers for the Doomgate Inn)

More C Team fic, wooooo!

(Have no idea what I’m talking about? check out this post)

The cast are so super supportive about slash/fandom creativity, which I love.

Also, to the author known as Those Folks: highest of fives on being the people who took the risk and made such good fic. (If you want me to take down the links to your work, though, let me know.) There needs to be more C Team fic in the world, and I hope I can get around to writing some of it, too.

Of the Living and the Dead – ghostofgatsby + ArcsArksandArches

“Oh there you are,” purrs Nano, twisting her fingers through Ross’s hair. “You’ve turned into quite the social butterfly, Smith. Two whole new friends in one year! No wonder you’ve been neglecting me.”
Smith’s mouth opens but no words come out. His eyes track back and forth, from Nano’s rage-filled smirk to Ross’s dawning realization of who Smith is, who he must be.
“Clearly two new friends is at least one too many,” Nano coos, drawing Ross’s head back against her thigh. “I don’t blame you for Trott. He’s got tricks, that one. I should’ve warned you, protected you. But this one-” She jerks Ross by the hair, hard enough to bring him up to his knees with a cry of pain. “This one is entirely your fault.”

the life of a drowning boy- playlist

A sequel playlist to a playlist for an original short story I wrote for creative writing, darkness within. It was about two brothers (one of which murders his girlfriends in a lake in their small Florida town); their relationship with their parents, and societal expectations.

But what if the boy who left and the boy who was left behind grew up?

Tracklist (and my vague-ish plot ideas) below the read-more. Note cw tags for both.
Dunno if the plot matches the mood of the music as well as the last one, but oh well.

Check out the Spotify playlist here.

Kiesha’ra Series Reference

The Kiesha’ra Series, young-adult fantasy books by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, was something I read in middle school. Everyone’s a shapeshifter, and the shapeshifters are divided into familial clans. The snakes are at war with some of the birds, but then there’s an arranged marriage made to make peace. That’s the setup of the first book, and each book thereafter sort of deals with the relationships and political problems in their combined society.

The books were short (or at least, I read them very quickly back then) and had interesting worldbuilding. It had some het romance but it didn’t feel overstated. Or maybe I just had a bigger tolerance for it back then, I dunno. I’ve reread some of it now, and it definitely has it’s pros and cons. And it’s something I wanted to see more enriched worldbuilding with.

Since deciding to create an AU of the series for the Yogs/Hats fandom for my own personal enjoyment/interest, I’ve done some research- which has proved pretty much futile on the internet. Atwater-Rhodes and her community used to have a forum and wiki set up that included troves of information from the books and the author herself. These websites have been defunct since 2015 (and inaccessible on the Wayback Machine), and have never been restored. The only sources I’ve been able to find are a couple of wiki pages and the books themselves.

So, to fill in the gaps for my own understanding/worldbuilding/fandom-use, I’ve compiled an informal, unofficial Google docs reference. This includes the shapeshifter types, their fashion and personalities, their societies and other cultural information created by/written into the world by Atwater-Rhodes. It is intended only as an informal reference for fandom-aligned use.

It is possible that Atwater-Rhodes has detailed more into the world in the books she’s published since Wyvernhail in 2007, and there could be gaps in understanding between my archiving and what was originally on her wiki.
Keeping that in mind, my reference extends majoritively to part of the Kiesha’ra series- Hawksong, Snakecharm, and Falcondance- but loosely takes the events of the entire series (including Wolfcry and Wyvernhail) into account. So. Spoilers, you know?
